i get RLS, but its a little different than some of you have described yours to be, i don't have like a twitching problem where my legs like move on there own. i just feel the urge to move my legs constantly. also, its like SO PAINFUL when i get it in the middle of the night. its like bad muscle cramps or something and nothing really relieves it once it starts. i started taking some mulitivitamins to help. it has been working i think cuz i haven't gotten it bad at night since i started taking them. whenever i try like stretching to help it, it feels better while im in the stretch but than as soon as im out of the stretch the creepy weird pain feeling comes back. its so hard to explain to someone who doesn't have it what its like. what do any of you do when you get it in the middle of the night?????

RLS -> MS? Or FMS? Or CFS? Or___?

Dave here, new member of this tribe. I’m a single FT parent with no financial help from the ex, little physical help, either. I’ve been on a leave of absence from work for 8 weeks and will be going back to work Monday. I took it because for several months leading up to November, fatigue, pain, memory loss, and numbness had increased to intolerable levels. When I started the leave, I figured that after 8 weeks of total rest, I would be back to normal. It hasn’t happened. My general physician sent me to a neurologist and the neurologist has sent me to UCSF MS Center. My first appointment is January 16th. I’ve had a brain MRI performed (August, 2007), a back MRI, spinal tap, and sleep study performed. I have not been diagnosed with anything yet, save a bad case of Restless Leg Syndrome.
My symptoms include:
~ Whole left side of body is tingly, sometimes numb, sometimes to the point of being painful
~ RLS
~ Sleep disorders
~ Short term memory loss
~ Insomnia
~ Decreasing tolerance of heat
~ Difficulty prioritizing important tasks
~ Geographical disorientation
~ Chronic fatigue
~ Chronic (deep/sharp) aches and pains
~ Depression
I’m not sure what I’ve got, all I know is that I’m in pain and I’m tired, and it doesn’t go away. I have some days that aren’t as bad as others, but overall, I’m scared shitless about going back to work Monday.
The hardest part is the waiting. And reading stories about wheelchairs and diapers. (I was on a nationally ranked athletic team in college.)
I have read stories about working/playing/living through the pain, but I wonder what thresholds I read of. I have extremely sharp and deep pains mostly in my shoulders, getting up out of chairs and beds can be very painful as well. My legs feel like they are on fire, and the left side of my body is tingly and getting worse. I can type and drive, but I don’t know if I can last 8 hours/day, 5 days /week.
Apologies if you see this posted more than once, but I just didn’t know which was the most appropriate tribe.
Dave

I'm doing research for a friend with RLS -- trying to get good info on how to help. have people tried any of the drugs that are out there for RLS? I see that there is now a drug on the market especially for RLS. It's called Requip. I also see people have been prescribed many other meds for some time now -- including klonipin and other prescription meds. Does anybody have firsthand experience (good or bad) with any of these drugs? I did see some feedback on Askapatient.com and similar sites, but still don't know if it's really worth it to add all those chemicals to the body.

That commercial

So I'm standing in my kitchen cooking some yummy grub and the TV is on in the other room. I wasn't paying attention until I heard "Do you frequently experience sudden leg momements the uncontrollable urge to move your? Does it disrupt your sleep?" Just I think, surely the aren't talking about RLS they go and say "You might have a condition called RLS". I missed key parts of the comercial but it was one of those standard ads for a drug big pharma has put out. Don't know what the drug was called.

It was just a couple years ago I learned that my spastic legs had a name for what they do and now they even have commercials about. Who'd a thunk.

What a joy to know that there are others..phew!!
My friends have looked at me like I am crazy when I tell them of this very restless, annoying feeling in my legs that does not let me sleep!!
I have a few suggestions of things that have helped over the years:

Roll it out with a rolling pin,

Kick it out, one two, one two, until it is gone. (this can take from 10 minutes to 2 hours)

Take really long walks at night.

Go crazy on the stairmaster until you can go no more.

Have it excorsized out (yes I did this) and I was told that in a past life I was bitten by a snake that was still holding on. He got it. The legs have been much much better. Still get it once in a while now.

New development: body shock syndrome...my whole bod will go into an electical spasm at random times, usually when stimulated sexually, psychadelically, or spiritually, go figure. Anyone else? Will I have to start the Electrical Spastics Tribe?

Cheers and Peace to the legz of all you fine peeps..

I've read before that stimulents can worsen RLS symptoms. Having endulged myself recently on MDMA I had, later near the end of the ride, uncharacteristially strong RLS symptoms. In fact I had it in my arms for the first time. That was very annoying. It subsided the next day and all is back to the normal level of twitching. :)

So if you endulge be aware your might worsen too.

Hi everyone,
I just joined this tribe.
I have experienced some of what you have listed above on the opening page of this tribe. I have it mostly when I sleep or almost asleep at night. My legs or arms jerk. It sometimes freaks me out and wakes me up when that happens. I never use to have this and I noticed it has been happening more often. Does anyone know what causes this and if there is anything can be done about it? I would like to know about others experiences with this and if anything has helped them. Nice to meet everyone!
Angela :-)
