That commercial

So I'm standing in my kitchen cooking some yummy grub and the TV is on in the other room. I wasn't paying attention until I heard "Do you frequently experience sudden leg momements the uncontrollable urge to move your? Does it disrupt your sleep?" Just I think, surely the aren't talking about RLS they go and say "You might have a condition called RLS". I missed key parts of the comercial but it was one of those standard ads for a drug big pharma has put out. Don't know what the drug was called.

It was just a couple years ago I learned that my spastic legs had a name for what they do and now they even have commercials about. Who'd a thunk.

My guess is that the commercial was for Ambien, made by Sanofi- Synthabo (or something like that).... now Sanofi-Aventis. I cannot recall if a prescription is needed. I decided to go to the web and search for it. What I found was interesting reading at www.umm.edu/patiented/ar..._000095_7.htm

Most of it makes sense to me, since I take lots of meds and I work in a physician's office (but have no medical background). Hope this helps all of you. Once my meds kick in for tonight, it's off to sleep for me!

No, the ad is not for Ambien, it is truly for RLS, I think it's Requip, or something. That ad got my attention, too. It's like what I suffered with for a decade now is being publically acknowledged, has a name and there is something out there for it's relief. I was almost in tears of joy! Check out the other thread labeled " Drugs".

I didn't even know that anyone else had this until I saw the commercial. How weird is that? My mom has always been a leg shaker so I think I got it from her. My grandmother always joked that there was something wrong with us and that she was going to strap my feet to the floor. It doesn't bother me the way it bothers other people. In fact, I rock myself to sleep at night with my foot. As long as he's asleep already, it's no bother to him either. Maybe it doesn't bother me because there was no gradual worsening. My has been full on for longer than I can remember. It sucks that I can't sit on the couch with anyone to watch a movie because the moving bugs people.

Is there any verdict on whether this is genetic???

No one else in my family has it. I'm ok with having it for the most part as it's only annoying when I get the creepy-crawling feelings in the muscles and have to pound my thighs to make them feel better or when I flip a plate or laptop onto the floor from a sudden jerk.

The drug is called Requip and I am interested in trying it too. I have the urge to move my feet a lot before i go to sleep and sometimes it feels like they "tickle" it is really annoying. But I also sleep like a crazy person...I kick. Sometimes I kick the person I am sleeping next to, it is not good. I don't know if the kicking has something to do w my restless leg syndrom or if maybe i have Periodic Limb something or another. Or if I just have violend dreams? Hmmmm.
