drugs

I'm doing research for a friend with RLS -- trying to get good info on how to help. have people tried any of the drugs that are out there for RLS? I see that there is now a drug on the market especially for RLS. It's called Requip. I also see people have been prescribed many other meds for some time now -- including klonipin and other prescription meds. Does anybody have firsthand experience (good or bad) with any of these drugs? I did see some feedback on Askapatient.com and similar sites, but still don't know if it's really worth it to add all those chemicals to the body.

I've had good success with Gabapentin (Neurontin) at a low dosage. Nuerontin can be prescribed for pain at higher dosages. Sinamet did not work at all for me and made me anxious in combo with my other meds. I have been on Neurontin for 2 yrs. now.

requip has been a miracle for me... i don't want to sound like some kind of creep in the service of whatever big pharma company makes it, but honest-to-goddess, i am so grateful for this medication i can't begin to tell you... the first night i took it my symptoms were GONE... and i had been suffering with RLS every single night for months... twice since i started taking it i had nights where i hadn't filled the rx in time to get it before bed and both nights were total hell... i couldn't sleep at all... which exacerbated another medical condition i have, the symptoms of which are brought on by stress and lack of sleep... i learned my lesson big time - i will not go without my requip ever again if i can help it...

people who have never had RLS will never be able to understand what hell it is for chronic sufferers like me... i only wish i could find a way to adequately describe what it is like... to have found relief is heaven...

In response to the previous reply (unsubscribed) it sound slike requip really helps you! That is so wonderful. Did you have problems staying asleep because your legs moved (or kicking). Just wandeing if the drug helps for movements that we make while we are sleeping? Anyone know?

hey i am unsubscribed above - the one who thinks requip is a miracle...

i have never had problems staying asleep due to rls... years ago i went to a sleep clinic to be observed for other problems related to sleep and they informed me that i had rls - that i apparently wasn't getting good sleep and that i was supposedly waking up all night long due to it and i had no idea ... it wasn't until a few years later that i became aware of my rls and it only kept me from getting to sleep... since the requip the problem has gone... some nights i have to take two because just one pill doesn't quite do the trick... but as far as i am aware once asleep i am staying asleep...

I have suffered form RLS for YEARS! At least ten! I went from doctor to doctor, even to an urgent care facility once to try to find out what it was so that someone could help me. They all looked at me like I was crazy. It's like being tortured, truly. I wished I could cut off my legs! Now I'm on Gabapentin 3 times a day and what a miracle. My legs are quiet. I still have problems with my feet and hands, though, which my chiropractor said is pheripheral neuropathy. Oh,BTW, it is covered by my medicaid, thank the Lord!
