i get RLS, but its a little different than some of you have described yours to be, i don't have like a twitching problem where my legs like move on there own. i just feel the urge to move my legs constantly. also, its like SO PAINFUL when i get it in the middle of the night. its like bad muscle cramps or something and nothing really relieves it once it starts. i started taking some mulitivitamins to help. it has been working i think cuz i haven't gotten it bad at night since i started taking them. whenever i try like stretching to help it, it feels better while im in the stretch but than as soon as im out of the stretch the creepy weird pain feeling comes back. its so hard to explain to someone who doesn't have it what its like. what do any of you do when you get it in the middle of the night?????

Re: vitamins
Sun, January 28, 2007 - 12:00 PMHi, new here - my name is Star, I am 50 years old and have suffered with RLS since my daughter was born 23 years ago. Frankly, I think the 2 are related - my left hip, leg, sciatic nerve haven't been the same since. I take Lyrica for my pain and RLS -150 mg 3 times a day. Before that I was up to 600 mg of Neurontin 3x day plus Vicodin, Trazadone, Seroquel and so on. It is very painful for me - I can not sit for more than a few minutes, and of course it only gets worse at night when I am just settling down - I feel as though I have to move- almost like Turrets - if I manage to postpone it, the dang thing goes into overdrive when I finally give in! The Lyrica helps a lot, but it makes me feel spacey - at least we'll blame it on that - the cost is also prohibitive - over $200 a month. Frankly, I have always taken vitamins, so don't think they help much for me. Too bad the cheap and effective Vicodin makes people treat you like an addict. Oh well. BLessings, Star

Re: vitamins
Sat, April 7, 2007 - 1:43 PMi've suffered with rls for years... i've been on requip which has been wonderful... it's helped immensely... unfortunately due to finanical problems recently i haven't been able to take them... it has been rough (thankfully i have my requip back)... but i'm wondering about vitamins and any kind of nutritional supplement that might be helpful... anybody have any specific ideas on what i might try? i've worked on meditation and visualization to work my way through the misery of it and it helped a little bit...
and i don't have the twitching problem either, alex... for me it's just that horrible neverending urge to move... if i fight it it just gets worse... if i give in to it it doesn't seem to get much better...
i really hate rls... it just sucks... -

Re: vitamins
Wed, May 14, 2008 - 11:05 AMI'm relieved to hear that there is a name for it and others that understand as well. Whenever I mentioned it to anyone, they would have no idea what I was talking about. RLS is like an orgasm -- if you've experienced it, you *KNOW* it.
Strange thing is, I've only experienced it a handful of times in my life. But man, when it hits, it's the most unrelenting feeling. I'd be so tired, so frustrated, but the discomfort would absolutely force me out of bed, to walk in place, in circles -- to just keep the muscles moving. That description that someone posted of feeling the discomfort comparable to reeeally bad poison oak is pretty accurate. It makes me feel like I'm gonna lose my mind. Constant movement is the only thing that would make that horrible feeling stop -- but it's only gone while in constant movement of your leg muscles.
I wonder why I have had this condition only on rare occasions, and others here in this tribe have it so often. For me, it's like *real* migraines in that I've had, but only (luckily) twice in my life (when I was much younger). I hope to never experience RLS again, but if and when I do, I'll be sure to consider facts such as my nutrition and general health habits at the time. Obviously I'm not a candidate for that medication mentioned in that commercial (that's the first time that I realized that I wasn't alone with this) because I have only suffered RLS on rare occasion.
